Maria Gulia (Antigiovanni) DiPietro, 91, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2012 at her daughter’s home on Matinicus Island, Maine. Born in Lenola, Italy, she came to the United States in 1937 and lived in Farmington, CT for over 70 years. Mrs. DiPietro was the only daughter of the late Attilio and Maria Angelina Antigiovanni and was the wife of the late Albert O. DiPietro. She was predeceased by her two brothers Vincenzo and John Antigiovanni, as well as her son Vincent DiPietro. Upon her arrival by boat to New York City, Mary was taken immediately by her brother to a ballgame at Yankee Stadium, thus establishing her life-long passion for “The Bronx Bombers”. She was a founding member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Ladies’ Guild, as well as the Societá Cittadini di Lenolese Ladies’ Auxiliary in Farmington and she served Our Lady of Calvary Retreat House for many years. Mary maintained an active lifestyle up until the day of her death and loved walking, bowling, gardening, knitting, and cooking. In addition, she lived a life of service to God, to her family, to her friends, and to any child who needed a Nonna. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Basilio and Patricia Antigiovanni; her children, Albert, Robert, Michael and Loretta DiPietro and their spouses; and by her 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Unionville on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Thursday, Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St., Farmington, CT. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
