Myra (Wilson) Jones, just shy of her 93rd birthday, died peacefully at home at River Ridge in Avon, Connecticut on Sunday February 27th. She leaves her loving and devoted husband, E. Paul Jones, of 68 years, her brother Thomas Wilson and his wife Allie, her children Donald, Janice, and Thomas, daughter-in-law Leslie, ex-daughter-in law Suzanne, her grandchildren, Michael, Wendy, Daniel, Gregory and Carrie (spread out all over the country), as well as nieces and nephews and their ever growing families. Myra was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated as a music major from Temple University in 1940. She pursued her two passions of music and flower gardening throughout her life. She always had a lovely flower garden where ever she lived: from Bayside, Queens to Livingston, New Jersey to Monroe, Connecticut. She taught piano privately for over fifty years! She sang in the Livingston Community Chorus, was an active member/occasional director of the Monroe Congregational Church choir, and in her sixties took up the violin to play in the Sacred Heart University Community Orchestra in Fairfield, Connecticut. Myra was a founding member of the Monroe, Connecticut Arts Council. With Paul as her partner, she enjoyed square dancing for many, many years as well as her weekly bridge games with friends in Monroe. Myra enjoyed travel, both in the U.S. and abroad. Driving in Great Britain was especially exciting. We will always remember Myra for her optimistic approach to life. She has said many times, “I had a good life”. A Memorial Service will be held Friday (Mar. 4) at 12:00pm in The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville. Burial was private for the family. Donations may be made in honor of Myra to the Temple University Esther Boyer College of Music.
