Robert G.L. “Sarge” Abalan, 83, of Burlington, beloved husband of Rinette (Roy) Abalan, died peacefully on Thursday, September 16th. Born in Hartford, December 31st, 1926, beloved son of the late Hazel (Pierce) Abalan-Stark. Sarge was a United States Navy veteran of the World War II and served with distinction in the Army in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring after 26 years of exemplary service. An Electrician by trade, he worked for Hartford Specialty and for many years at the Old Towne Bar & Grille, the center of Unionville which he loved so much. Besides his loving wife of 39 years, he is survived by his three sisters, Aneysa Bristol, Gloria Brodeur and Louise Pollard, his children, Jerry Jones and Cindy Kieth of North Carolina, Cindy Sekulski of New Hartford, Sandra Merlin of North Carolina, Rick Abalan of East Granby, Jeff Niksa of Bristol, Robert G.L. Abalan Jr., of Winsted, Rudy Niksa of Burlington, Wes Niksa of Bristol, Tina Abalan of New Hartford, and Douglas Abalan of Burlington and his grandchildren, Amanda and Beth, Jaime Lynn, Sarah, Karen and Kaleb, Vicky and Nicky, Stephanie and Jennifer and Joshua and Robbie. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Saturday (Oct. 2) from 11:00-2:00pm followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 2:00pm. Burial with full military honors will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial Processing Center, P.O.
